INTRODUCTION OF ELECTRONICS INTO AUTOMOBILES AND CONTROLLING MANY FUNCTIONS USING ECU
ABSTRACT

This is to show that the combinations of electronics with mechanical field can

create revolution in the field of automobiles and the way people travel. The ECU

( Electronic Control Unit ) is used to do many operations this is designed based on

the principles of the EMBEDDED SYSTEMS it gives intelligence to the vehicle

and it can be run with out any strain or confusion. The Safety and Comfort levels

are increased a lot. The vehicle equipped with this system can be called as smart

vehicles as they work depending on the situation. The probability of accidents is

very less hence safe.

ABS :-( Anti-Lock Braking System). This system protects the vehicle form getting

skidded at high speeds and also when there are sudden sharp bent turnings. There are

two sensors at each wheel one measures the speed of the wheel and the other

measures the turning and bending angles. These values are sent to the ECU where

these values are considered and signal is sent to the pumping motor present at each

wheel to correct the speed of the wheel.

When brake is applied at high speed if the retardation of all the wheels

is not same then the vehicle gets skidded off but the ECU corrects this error and

makes the drive smoother.

At a turning (let it be Right turn ) the vehicle turns smoothly if the

wheels on right side are slow than the wheels on left side using conventional braking

system this doesn’t occur but the sensor measuring the angle of turn in tyres sends

signal to ECU and brake is applied more on right side less on left side thus giving safe

and smooth turn. (Vice versa for left turn)

Thus using ECU the vehicle can be made safer.

SRS :-( Surround Sensors). These are sensors which are placed in front, rear bumpers

and on sides. These sensors detect the presence of any vehicle and its collision with

our vehicle. If there is a chance of accident the ECU warns with a sound signal

provided by VAS (Voice Assistance System). Even then if the vehicle is not stopped

by the driver then brake is applied automatically by ECU using ABS.

Using this SRS we can even predict whether our vehicle fits in

particular place in parking lot or not this prevents the pretty collisions in parking lots.
Accidents on the highways can be avoided mostly as the other vehicle

is detected automatically and brake is applied at a safe distance.

V & VAS :-( Voice & Video Assistance System). This is the system which

completely works as the output from ECU based on the signals from ECU the sound

or the video signal is given this occurs in following cases.

Voice Assistance:-
1. Fuel run out.

2. Chance of a collision.

3. Any problem in vehicle

Video Assistance:-

1. Parking lot

2. Route Navigation using G.P.S

3. Rear view in reverse gear.
